Rougelke=Roguelikes

This entire time I've been typing roguelikes wrong its roguelike not rougelike. Sorry.

ADOM

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! This review will be about ADOM the Rougelike! ADOM is an (ok game in my personal perspective) original game about you the hero trying to find the source of chaos in the world. There are ten playable races, and twenty playable classes.Those of you that know ADOM know that it is classified as a "hack" game. (games which have roots in nethack) ADOM has a large number of spells to use, in which are either arcane or clerical. Throughout the game, the hero begins to get more and more corrupted until the final challenge is defeated. But, if you are corrupted enough the game will end with you as a lowly servant of Chaos. I haven't played it enough to recommend it to anyone so, try it out your self! http://adom.de/ is the website!

New to Rougelikes?

I can't believe I forgot to introduce any of you to rougelikes. Rougelikes, as I used to say when I first found out about them, are really complicated RPG's. They require patience, intellect, and ,most of all, vigor. Four basic features of a rougelike are the need for food, permanent death (permadeath), huge variety of races, classes, and sub-classes (and such), and finally a variety of different leveling systems. Rougelikes have an endless variety of free games and modes. Most rougelikes have very little graphics at all (ASCII) and others (like Elona and Triangle wizard) have many more graphics.This Blog will help you to understand rougelikes especially if you want to get into rougelikes with my, soon to be many, summary reviews.

Doom: The Rougelike

Alright, time to continue the trend of light rougelikes. Doom: The Rougelike is a very light one indeed. This one requires no food, and no real significant storyline. Somehow, it is somewhat of a rougelike run and gun game. But, the real challenge in this game is the ammo prospect of it. I used to believe that it would be really hard to make a rougelike Zombie Game. I used to think "Oh no! I'm surrounded by zombies with no ammo, my armor, and my melee weapon is damaged. I think ill take 15 minutes to figure out what to do." This game (sorta) changed my perspective on rougelikes with zombies. Its very fast paced and very fun. I recommend it to any Coffee Break Rougelike lovers out there.

Triangle Wizard

Okay, this one is particularly light for a rougelike. Firstly, you can choose whether to have permadeath or not, it is like a 2-D shooter, and is not too turn-based. In spite of this it is a very good rougelike with a wide array of spells, races, and classes. It is kind of short and I would consider it a Coffee Break Rougelike. Depending on your likes, i would recommend it to most. Its site is http://trianglewizard.webs.com/.
You should only try this one if you enjoy smashing around lightly with out too much thought.

Elona

Alright, I wanna start on Elona by Noa. This was my first rougelike, and one of the best i have ever tried. The translation from Japanese to English is one of hilarity. Since everything like names, monsters, and dungeons are randomized you can end up with some wacky combinations. I once ended up having a name like: The God Totem, Totem or The Queen Jackson or even by random events The Hero Link. It has some wacky things to do too. You can be a prostitute, and even a suicide bomber. The website for it in english is http://homepage3.nifty.com/rfish/index_e.html. Try It OUT!
